Vynova has launched the world’s first range of low-carbon potassium (K) derivatives. Marketed under the VynoEcoSolutions brand, the new K derivatives product line has the lowest carbon footprint available on the market and will help customers across a wide range of industries to manufacture more sustainable products.
“The EU Green Deal sets ambitious targets in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and minimizing our impact on the environment. In order to help our customers achieve their sustainability goals, we have screened our entire potassium derivatives supply chain and production process in terms of CO2 footprint and impact on the environment, from the extraction of the raw materials to the delivery of the product to our customers,” explains Jacques Sturm, Vynova Vice President Potassium Derivatives Business. “In a next step, we have defined those elements for which we can lower the CO2 emissions and environmental footprint through the adoption of innovative solutions.”
CO2 reduction of up to 30%
These innovative solutions cover, among others, the use of renewable energy in the company’s membrane electrolysis production process as well as more ecological approaches to potassium chloride sourcing, packaging and transportation. “In particular for transportation, our unique set-up as the only K derivatives producer with multiple manufacturing sites in Europe gives us exceptional flexibility to customize the supply chain for each customer,” comments Jacques Sturm.
The result: a CO2 emission reduction of up to 30% compared to conventionally produced potassium derivatives, depending on the type of product and the location of the customer.
VynoEcoSolutions portfolio
Potassium hydroxide and potassium carbonate are crucial to many manufacturing and processing industries and are for example used in the food industry, consumer care products, industrial applications and pharmaceuticals. “As Europe’s number one supplier of potassium derivatives, we are continually looking at ways to assist our customers in addressing their challenges. Thanks to our low-carbon portfolio, we can now make a significant contribution to reduce the CO2 footprint of our customers,” comments Jacques Sturm.
The low-carbon range will be produced at the Vynova sites in Tessenderlo (Belgium) and Thann (France) and covers the full Vynova potassium derivatives portfolio: potassium hydroxide (KOH) liquid and solid as well as potassium carbonate (K2CO3).
Vynova’s low-carbon potassium derivatives will be marketed under the VynoEcoSolutions brand, Vynova’s portfolio of circular and renewable products, which also includes the company’s renewable caustic soda as well as its bio- and circular-attributed PVC ranges.
Strong sustainability commitment
“Thanks to the launch of this low-carbon range, we can now offer more sustainable alternatives for our three main product lines: PVC, caustic soda and potassium derivatives, helping our customers achieve their sustainability goals. This demonstrates our strong commitment to be an industry leader in the transition towards a more sustainable and circular chemical sector. In addition, we are continually working on minimizing the carbon footprint and environmental impact of our own operations through targeted investments in state-of-the-art production assets,” concludes Vynova President Christophe André.
